Paper split at spine on pastedown; 1/2" tear near spine on page 254; foxing has begun, particularly near spine; shelfwear edges, especially base and top of spine (gilt title, laurel wreath on cover and spine still in wonderful condition). Prior owner name and original book price written 2nd endpaper.

Lowell's Poems, James Russell Lowell, published by Henry Altemus, Philadelphia. Lovely old book 6.5" x 4.5", with brown boards, inlaid gold engravings and picture of hooded lady and tree on cover in green, pink an blue. Spine says Poems, Lowell. 246 pages followed by 16 pages of ads. Excellent condition, bright colors considering age. No inscriptions, no date, but estimate is of around 1890. May be first edition. Frontispiece features Altemus, two Greek statues.
